Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Edged by Manhattan, 2-1

Adrien Awana's goal in the 50th minute broke a 1-1 tie and lifted Manhattan to a 2-1 victory over Canisius in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men's soccer action Saturday at the Demske Sports Complex in Buffalo, N.Y.
 
Brandon Joseph-Buadi also scored for the Jaspers (5-8-0, 4-3-0 MAAC). Freshman Julius Schoner tallied the lone goal for the Golden Griffins (2-12-0, 1-6-0 MAAC).
 
Schoner gave Canisius a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute, blasting a free kick from just outside the 18-yard box into the upper left-hand corner of the net for his second of the campaign.
 
Joseph-Buadi tied the game a little less than 10 minutes later when he beat Canisius keeper Fabio D'Errico with a shot inside the left post for his fifth of the season.
 
Awana put the Jaspers ahead for good at the 49:27 mark of the contest, ripping a free kick from just outside the 18-yard box into the upper left-hand corner of the goal for his first of the season.
 
Marcellin Gohier made two saves in goal for Manhattan. D'Errico finished with five saves for Canisius.  
 
Head Coach Dermot McGrane's Postgame Comments
"Once again after going up a goal we failed to hold onto the lead. I understand that we are young team but we must start learning from our mistakes if we are ever going to get better."
 
Game Notes
• Saturday's game was the 29th contest between Canisius and Manhattan.  -The Jaspers took the lead in the all-time series, 13-12-4, with their victory on Saturday.
• Manhattan out-shot Canisius, 15-9, for the contest, highlighted by a 9-6 edge in the second half.
• Canisius tallied the opening goal of the game for the fifth time in the last six games with Schoner's strike in the 21st minute.
• Schoner moved into a tie with fellow freshman Federico Mereto for second on the team's scoring chart with six points (2g, 2a).

• Canisius returns to the road as it travels to Fairfield Oct. 30 for a 4 p.m. matchup with the Stags at Lessing Field in Fairfield, Conn.
