Women's Soccer Draws with Saint Peter's on Senior Day

Goals from junior Shauna Lee and senior Alicia Larsson Vahlberg led Canisius women's soccer to a 2-2 draw with Saint Peter's Saturday afternoon at the Demske Sports Complex.

With the tie, the Golden Griffins move to 6-6-2 on the season and 1-4-2 in MAAC play. The Peacocks improve to 3-10-1 and 1-5-1 with their first draw of the season.

Lee put the Griffs on the board first in the game's 22nd minute after she took the ball form Canisius' side of the field and raced through Saint Peter's defenders before pushing a shot into the lower right-hand corner of the net past Peacock goalkeeper Victoria Scarratt. Canisius pushed its lead to 2-0 in the 61st minute of play when Larsson Vahlberg received a pass from teammate Hannah Kim at the top of the box, turned and fired a shot just inside the left post for her second goal of the season.

Saint Peter's cut the Griffs' lead to 2-1 in the 78th minute and then tied the contest 2-2 in the 86th minute of play, forcing the contest to overtime. In the overtime periods, Canisius outshot Saint Peter's 4-1, but neither team could push through for the victory.

Canisius ended the game with a 21-9 advantage in shots, with 11 of those on goal against five Peacocks' shots on goal. The Blue and Gold also held a 5-2 advantage in corner-kick chances for the contest.
