Men’s Soccer Defeated by Quinnipiac

Quinnipiac scored four first-half goals to take an early lead and cruise to a 5-0 victory over Canisius in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men's soccer action Saturday at the Quinnipiac Soccer and Lacrosse Stadium in Hamden, Conn.

Simon Hillinger opened and closed the scoring, Griffin Scaglia added an insurance marker and the Bobcats (5-4-3, 3-1-1 MAAC) took advantage of an own goal during opening 45 minutes to pull away from the visiting Golden Griffins (2-11-0, 1-5-0 MAAC) and extend their unbeaten streak to three games (2-0-1).

Hillinger opened the scoring just 2:18 into the contest, collecting a cross from Christian Casagranda in the middle of the box and beating Canisius keeper Fabio D'Errico with a shot into the lower right-hand corner of the net.

The Bobcats saw their lead grow to 2-0 in the 25th minute when a header from Scaglia deflected off a Canisius defender and into the net for an own goal.

Scaglia extended the Quinnipiac cushion to 3-0 at the 35:08 mark of the match, heading home a Romain Daniellou free kick from the middle of the box.

Hillinger added his second of the contest with less than two minutes to play before the halftime break, floating a shot into the upper right-hand corner of the net from just outside the box.

Oriac Rotxes closed out the scoring in the 78th minute with a goal that was assisted by Andrew Sullivan.
