Men’s Soccer Falls to Iona

Iona scored three goals in the second half to erase a halftime deficit and defeat Canisius, 3-1, in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men's soccer action Wednesday at the Demske Sports Complex in downtown Buffalo.

The Gaels (8-2-1, 3-0-1 MAAC) used goals from Mauro Bravo, Eimantas Lotuzys and Josh Plimpton during the final frame to overcome a one-goal deficit and extend their unbeaten streak to eight games (7-0-1).

Senior Troy Brady scored his team-leading fourth goal for the Golden Griffins (2-10-0, 1-4-0 MAAC) while redshirt-freshman keeper Fabio D'Errico made a season-high nine saves.

Brady gave Canisius a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute, collecting a pass from junior Manuele Cavazzoli on the right side of the box and beating Gaels keeper Gabriel Cinanni with a shot inside the left post.

Bravo evened the score at the 58:23 mark of the contest when his shot from outside the box deflected off a Canisius defender and into the upper right-hand corner of the Griffs' goal.

Lotuzys pusehd the Gaels in front in the 76th minute, putting home a rebound from the middle of the box after D'Errico turned aside an initial attempt off the foot of Esad Mackic.

Plimpton closed out scoring at the 83:10 mark, tapping home a backdoor feed from Mackic for his second of the campaign.

Head Coach Dermot McGrane's Postgame Comments
"I thought we played very well in the first 45 minutes but we continue to make silly decisions and find a way to lose rather than find a way to win. Playing a man down the final 30 minutes of the game doesn't help us win either."
