Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Upended at Saint Peter’s

Saint Peter's tallied three goals in a 3:46 span late in the second half to erase a two-goal deficit and defeat Canisius, 4-3, in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men's soccer action Saturday at Jaroschak Field in Jersey City, N.J.

Omar Seghri, Jordan Jowers and Dominic Laws all scored for the Peacocks (7-5-0, 4-1-0 MAAC), who picked up their third straight victory with the come-from-behind triumph. Saint Peter's first goal of the game was credited as an own goal.

Senior Troy Brady and freshmen Julius Schoner and Federico Mereto accounted for the three Golden Griffin (2-9-0, 1-3-0 MAAC) goals.

Less than a minute after Canisius took a 3-1 lead on a tally from Brady in the 82nd minute, Seghiri started the Saint Peter's comeback with a goal at the 83:20 mark on a assist from Alex Garcia.

Jowers drew the Peacocks level just 1:54 seconds later as he recorded his league-leading seventh goal of the campaign with an unassisted effort.

Laws put SPU in front with 2:56 remaining in regulation, depositing a pass from Tom Coulson into the Canisius cage for the decisive tally.

Earlier in the contest, Schoner gave Canisius a 1-0 lead at the 28:28 mark, blasting a shot from outside the box past Saint Peter's keeper Robbie Anderson and into the lower left-hand side of the net.

The Peacocks drew level less than five minutes later when a Saint Peter's cross was deflected by a Canisius defender into the net for an own goal.

Mereto put the Griffs back in front in the 61st minute, teaming up with Brady for his second of the campaign to give Canisius a 2-1 edge.

Brady made it a 3-1 in favor of the Griffs with an unassisted effort at the 82:29 mark of the contest, setting the stage for Saint Peter's comeback.

Head Coach Dermot McGrane's Postgame Comments
"For 83 minutes we played like men, but in the last seven minutes we played like boys. To be leading the game 3-1 with under seven minutes to go, and lose 4-3 is unacceptable. There is nothing else you can say."
