Quinnipiac scored 24 of its 55 points off of 31 Canisius turnovers to defeat the Golden Griffins 55-42 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference women's basketball action Sunday afternoon.

The Bobcats are now 6-0 in conference and 11-6 overall, while Canisius drops to 4-2 in the MAAC and 6-11 overall.

Senior Sara Hinriksdottir scored a team-best 18 points, going 5-for-11, including 7-for-8 from the charity stripe. Sophomore Anndea Zeigler tallied eight points on 3-of-10 shooting, while junior D'Jhai Patterson-Ricks and senior Zhane Irby scored seven and five points, respectively. Sophomore Danielle Sanderlin grabbed a game-high seven rebounds in the loss. On offense, Canisius shot 40.5 percent from the field, 30.0 percent from the perimeter and 90.0 percent from the free throw line.

The Blue and Gold held Quinnipiac to a season-low 31.1 field goal percentage and 16.7 3-point field goal percentage.

Quinnipiac was led by Taylor Herd who scored a career-high 21 points to lead all scorers on 7-for-14 shooting, including a 4-for-11 mark from behind the arch. Jen Fay recorded 15 points and five rebounds in the win for the Bobcats, while MAAC Preseason Player of the Year, Aryn McClure snagged seven caroms and was held to just five points on 2-for-11 shooting.

The Bobcats led from the very first bucket of the first quarter, a fast-break layup by Brittany Martin, sparking a 6-0 run for Quinnipiac until Hinriksdottir scored the Griffs first points of the game. A 5-0 run for the Bobcats in the second boosted the score to 21-12, followed by Quinnipiac outscoring the Griffs 9-7 in the final five minutes of the half to take a 29-19 lead into the break.

In the third stanza, Quinnipiac would use another 5-0 scoring run to make the score 41-27 with 2:15 left on the clock. In the fourth, Quinnipiac would get its biggest lead of the day, 44-31, after a fast break layup. The Griffs wouldn't get any closer than 52-42 after Sanderlin's lone bucket of the game as Quinnipiac went on to win 55-42.

Head Coach Scott Hemer's Postgame Comments
"I thought we gave up too many second chance points, too many points off turnovers to have a chance to truly compete for a win today, but If you look at all that and you lose by 13, holding a team of that nature to under 60 points you should give yourself a chance to have some success. The downside is we did a lot wrong tonight and on the flip side if the we can realize how bad some of that was and do something about it moving forward I think we can compete with just about anybody."
