Women’s Lacrosse Edges Bearcats to Earn First Win of the Season

GAME RECAP
Senior Jen Reininger set career-highs in goals, points and draw controls, as her strong performance helped secure Canisius women's lacrosse's first win of the season, as the team edged Binghamton, 13-12 on Monday. With the win the Golden Griffins improved to 1-3 on the season, while the Bearcats dropped to 3-3 overall.
 
Reininger's day was much more than offense, as she led all scorers with six goals, two assists for eight points, however she also recorded a team-best nine draw controls, to go along with four ground balls and three caused turnovers.
 
Jourdan Roemer also put forth a strong effort on the offensive end, tallying a pair of goals, along with three assists for five points.
 
Lauren Smolensky and Allie Stewart added a pair of points with Stewart tallying a pair of goals while Smolensky registered a goal and an assist. Meanwhile Bryar Cummings and Miranda Malvaso each tallied a goal in the victory.
 
Despite going down 3-1 early in within the first six minutes of the contest, Canisius went on a five-goal run to go up 5-3, with 13:36 left in the half. Binghamton battled back but the Blue and Gold managed to take a two-goal lead into half time, thanks to a marker in the final minute by Roemer, as Canisius led the Bearcats 8-6.
 
The Blue and Gold pushed that lead out to 13-9 with just 10 minutes remaining in the game, however the Bearcats answered once again, scoring three goals, with the last one coming with 16 seconds on the clock, to make it 13-12.
 
Binghamton set up for a final possession, winning the draw, however the Bearcats were unable to break through the Canisius defense and tallying the equalizer.

COACH DALEY POST GAME COMMENTS:
"I am proud of our entire team today," head coach Allison Daley said. "Today was a great team win. We were able to battle through some adversity that the game handed us and we were able to come out on top. I can't speak highly enough of our team culture. These girls deserved the win today."
 
GAME NOTES:
• With the win the Griffs now lead the all-time series against Binghamton, 13-2.
• Reininger set a new career-best in goals, recording six for the game.
• Both Reininger and Roemer extended their point streaks, with Reininger having gone the lax 24 games with a point and Roemer having tallied a point in the lax 33 contests.
• Reininger was all over the field, as she set a new career-best with nine draw controls
 
UP NEXT
Canisius continues its season as it opens up a four game homestand beginning on Friday, as the team hosts Delaware. Game time is set for 4 p.m. at the Demske Sports Complex and the game will will be aired on ESPN3.
