Softball Drops Two on Second Day of Spartan Classic

GAME RECAP
GREENSBORO, N.C. -  Canisius softball was defeated 11-0 and 9-1 by Towson and UNC-Greensboro, respectively, on the second day of the Spartan Classic Saturday in Greensboro, N.C. The Blue and Gold fall to 3-17 on the season as Towson and UNCG approve to 19-3 and 19-7. 

GAME ONE
Towson's offense exploded with two home-runs in the first inning, following with at least one run in the second, fourth, and fifith innings, to earn the 11-0 victory over the Golden Griffins. Canisius had just three hits in the defeat with sophomores Gianna Degaltini, Morgan Altman and freshman Kara Paradowski each recording a base knock. Freshman Emily Nicosia took the loss for Griffs as she went 3.2 innings surrendering nine runs on seven hits. 

GAME TWO
Canisius trailed the host UNCG 4-1 going into the bottom of the sixth, but a home run from the Spartan's sophomore infielder Jordan Gontram sparked a rally that concluded with fives runs on four hits, giving UNCG the 9-1 victory.
 
Senior pitcher Erika Mackie took the loss for Canisius after she allowed four runs on seven hits to go with three strikeouts and two walks in five innings. Junior Molly Hennessy entered the circle for the Griffs in the sixth inning and was unable to record an out as she allowed five runs on two hits with three free passes.

• The Griffs recorded nine hits in the two games on Saturday.
• Degaltini recorded a multi-hit game with two hits against UNCG.
• Five different Golden Griffins tallied a base hit.
