Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Colgate Knocks Off Men's Lacrosse Saturday

Griffin Brown tallied seven goals to lead Colgate to an 18-5 victory over Canisius in collegiate men's lacrosse action Saturday at Andy Kerr Stadium in Hamilton, N.Y.

Brown's career day highlighted a high-powered Raiders (5-3) attack that saw seven players record two or more points in the contest. Dunkin Hoskinson tallied four goals while Sam Cleveland scored one goal and dished out a team-high three assists.

Sophomore Mathieu Boissonneault recorded his first career hat trick while senior Connor Kearnan chipped in a goal and three assists for the Golden Griffins (3-2).

With the score tied at 1-1 midway through the first quarter, Matt Donovan found the back of the net at the 6:21 mark of the opening frame to ignite a run that saw Colgate score six unanswered goals over a nearly eight-minute span to build a 7-1 cushion early in the second.

Boissonneault temporarily halted the Raiders' surge with a man-up marker at the 10:25 of the second quarter, but Colgate responded with four straight goals over a more than 15-minute stretch to build an 11-2 advantage a little more than five minutes into the third.

Stefaniak attempted to slow down the Raiders attack as he scored with 8:12 remaining in the third to make it an eight-goal contest, but Colgate had another run in it, this time running off seven straight goals to take its largest lead of the game, 18-3, with just under six minutes to play in the fourth.

Boissonneault scored the final two goals of the contest to complete his hat trick and determine the final margin.

Head Coach Mark Miyashita's Postgame Comments
"Hats off to Colgate. They came out and were able to control the tempo throughout the entire contest. We need to clean up some things up at the faceoff x and limit the number of possessions our opponents get.

"Offensively, we had too many unforced turnovers that did not allow us to get into a rhythm. It also put a lot of pressure on our defense as they had to go long stretches without a rest, which is always difficult, but especially against a high-powered offense like Colgate.

"There were a lot of little things that we saw during today's game that are correctable, and we will look to do so before our next game Tuesday against a talented Albany squad."
