LAST TIME OUT
• Despite a last-second desperation three-pointer by Niagara's Kaylee Stroemple that forced overtime, the Canisius women's basketball team defeated the Purple Eagles, 64-60 at the Koessler Athletic Center on Thursday. 
• It appeared Niagara was well on its way to its first win over the Griffs since the 2016 MAAC Tournament, as the team opened up the game on a 24-8 lead with 5:59 left in the second quarter, but Canisius bounced back, going on a 33-14 run from that point on, taking a 41-38 lead into the final stanza.
• In the fourth quarter, Maria Welch put the Blue and Gold on top by six points with a layup with 2:15 left but Stroemple, with two seconds remaining on the clock at the end of regulation, launched a 3-pointer with Griffs' defenders in her face, to send the game to extra time, 58-58.
• Both teams kept the offenses in check but free throws were the weapon of choice as the Griffs hit six free throws in the final period to advance past the Purple Eagles.
• Welch continued her trend of strong play against Niagara, notching a season-high 22 points in the win. The junior was 5-of-12 from beyond the arc and added three rebounds, two assists, three blocks and three steals to a loaded stat line.
Sara Hinriksdottir tallied a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Danielle Sanderlin recorded 12 points in the win.

SCOUTING THE GRIFFS
• Hinriksdottir continues to be the team's most productive point producer, as she is averaging 13.9  points per game and 5.6 rebounds per contest.
• Welch is next on the scoring list, posting 8.7 points per game.
Margret Halfdanardottir is third on the Griffs' scoring list, averaging 8.1 points per contest.
• Canisius is averaging 55.6 points per game and is allowing 65.1
• The team is shooting 36.0 percent from the field, while opponents are limited to 38.3.
• As a team the Griffs have averaged 36.8 boards per game and opponents are taking down 41.0.

NOTING SAINT PETER'S
• Saint Peter's enters the game with a 4-19 record and an 1-11 conference mark.
• The Peacocks snapped a 14-game losing skid with a win over Monmouth on Jan. 26, however come into the contest on a three-game losing skid following the win.
• Talah Hughes leads the team with a 10.9 points per game average.
• Zoe Pero and Alyssa Velles also hover around the 10-point plateau, with 8.8 and 8.0 point per game averages, respectively.
• Hughes also leads the team in rebounding with a 6.0 boards per contest average.
• Sammy Lochner paces the Peacocks with 2.9 assists per game.
• Saint Peter's is averaging 55.1 points per game while allowing 68.7 points per game.
• The Peacocks are hitting 36.7 percent of its shot from the field and hitting  29.6 percent from long range.
• The Peacocks hold a -1.7 rebounding margin and are averaging 37.4 boards per game.

SERIES HISTORY VS. SAINT PETER'S
• This is the 62nd meeting all-time in program history between these teams, as Canisius holds a slight 31-30 edge in the series. 
• The first game between these two squads came in 1985 86 season and Canisius didn't record its first win until 1991 with a two game-sweep of the Peacocks. 
• Saint Peter's dominated the Griffs, early in the series, holding a 23-7 lead over Canisius leading into the 2002 season. 
• Following the Griffs win in the MAAC tournament in 2002, Canisius has started its own string of dominance, going 24-7 since that time.
• The Griffs have also won the last 10 games and are 10-1 in the last 10. 
• The last time Saint Peter's defeated Canisius came on Feb. 7, 2013.

WELCH THE PURPLE EAGLE KILLER
Maria Welch added yet another addition to her long list of strong performances against Niagara on Feb. 1.
• The junior standout posted a season-high 22 points, highlighted by five 3-pointers.
• In seven games against Niagara Welch has tallied three  games of 20-or-more points, and double-digits in five of the seven.
• Through the seven games she has averaged 15 points and has been the leading scorer in three of the contests.
