Hinriksdottir Named MAAC Player of the Week

Junior Sara Hinriksdottir was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Week after averaging 23 points and 7.5 rebounds, and leading the Golden Griffins women's basketball team to a 2-0 record last weekend. This is the first time this year Hinriksdottir has been honored by the conference and the second time in her Griffs career.

The junior from Keflavik, Iceland, had a weekend-high 24 points in a win over Saint Peters, and followed that up with a 22-point effort in a victory over Monmouth.

Aside from the breakout in points, she was the team leader in rebounds in both games, tallying eight against the Peacocks and seven against the Hawks.

The jack-of-all-trades player also averaged 2.5 assists per game, tallying five total in two contests.

The Canisius standout hit a bit of a lull coming out of the holiday break, posting three games with under 10-points scoring, but has broken out in a big way, tallying not only double-figures in five-straight, but scoring 15-or-more in four of the last five games, and averaging 19.2 points per game in that span.

Also in that stretch she's tallied five-or-more rebounds in four-of-five games, averaging 6.6 boards.

She will help lead the Blue and Gold in a challenging weekend upcoming, taking on the top team in the MAAC, Quinnipiac, in the annual Kids Day game on Friday, and second-place Marist on Sunday. Both games will be played at the KAC with game times of 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.
