RIT Shutouts Hockey in Series Finale, 2-0

Junior Erik Brown tallied both goals and freshman goaltender Ian Andriano recorded his first career shutout to lead RIT to a 2-0 victory over Canisius in Atlantic Hockey Conference action Saturday at the Gene Polisseni Center in Rochester, N.Y.

Brown increased his team-leading goal total to 16 and Andriano recorded 12 saves to pace the Tigers (9-12-2, 8-8-1 AHC), who snapped a six-game winless skid with Saturday's victory.

Sophomore Daniel Urbani turned aside 31 shots between the pipes for the Golden Griffins (12-10-2, 12-6-0 AHC).

Brown staked RIT to a 1-0 lead just before the midway point of the first period, firing a slap shot past Urbani from the middle of the right faceoff circle.

Brown doubled the Tigers advantage just 30 seconds into the middle period when he put home a loose puck after being left unmarked in front of the Canisius goal.

That would be all the support Andriano would need as he stopped four shots in the first, three in the second and five in third to record his first collegiate victory.

Head Coach Trevor Large's Postgame Comments
"Tonight was one of those games where we did not have our best and our opponent played well. In our league, if the opponent plays well and you're not sharp, you're going to lose every night. That was the story tonight.

"I don't know if they were different compared to last night. We did not have a great answer for what they did. They took away Dylan (McLaughlin). It was very obvious to see they were taking him away on the power play, especially in the breakout. They were honed in on him. We did not have a great answer for that. I did not feel it was a different effort from them. It's an energy team that works really hard getting pucks to the net. For us, it wasn't not our best effort. We were not sharp.

"Daniel Urbani was very good for us tonight. This one is not on him. We needed to generate way more offense. He was able to keep us in the game tonight. You never know how it's going to go. Heading into the third period, we're talking in the locker room about how this game was not over. It's only 2-0. We needed that first goal to hopefully put them on their heels. We felt that if we would have been able to get that first goal, that would have given us a big jolt of energy."
