Women's Soccer Shutout at Cleveland State, 2-0

GAME RECAP
Cleveland State junior McKenna Vento scored in the 63rd minute and the host Vikings added another score later in the game's second half as Cleveland State defeated Canisius 2-0 Wednesday night at Krenzler Field. The loss drops the Golden Griffins to 3-2-0 on the campaign.

The Vikings second goal would come in the 74th minute, as Cleveland State sophomore Bianca Sarti would be credited with the goal after Vento controlled the Griffs turnover deep in their own zone. Vento lofted a cross into the middle of the box and was able to chip the ball over the over the head of Canisius sophomore goalkeeper Alana Rossi, and across the goal line. Rossi would stop two shots in the game and eventually be replaced for the final 7:18 by freshman Bailey Fenwick-Miller.

The game was evenly played in the first half, but Cleveland State stepped up their play in the second stanza. The Vikings fired nine total shots towards the frame, with four going on goal. Canisius would attempt four shots in the Vikings direction, with three finding the Cleveland State senior goalkeeper, Jamie Daniels.

The Vikings also recorded four corner kicks to the Griffs' one corner opportunity.

Coach Clark's Post Game Comments
"I was actually very pleased with our effort in the first half; we were in the game and where we wanted to be. In the second half, we had two losses of energy and effort on the two goals. We got out-worked for the ball in the second half.  If we want to be successful, then we are going to need to have a consistent effort from every single person on the field for every single second and carry that same effort day in and day out. That did not happen tonight, and it cost us the game."

Game Notes
• This was the 10th all-time meeting between the two schools, with Canisius trailing in the series 6-4-0.
• These two schools have now played in six straight seasons, with the Vikings winning five of the six contests.
• Canisius' last win in the series came during the 2012 campaign, where the Blue and Gold scored a 3-0 victory.
