Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Defeats Robert Morris, 1-0

Freshman Amanda Wisbeck scored her first collegiate goal on her 19th birthday to help propel Canisius to a 1-0 win over Robert Morris Friday afternoon in Moon Township, Pa.

The win moves Canisius to 4-2-0 on the season, and it stands as the Golden Griffins' first road victory of the year. The Colonials dropped to 2-5-0 with the loss, and were shut out for the first time in their last four matches.

Wisbeck put the Blue and Gold in front in the 79th minute after junior Emily Czechowski sent corner kick on a straight line, ricocheting of Wizbeck's knee and past Colonials goalkeeper Sydney Bruckner for the game-winner.

Canisius sophomore goalkeeper Alana Rossi was stellar in between the posts for her third shutout of the 2017 campaign, and eighth of her career. Rossi made four saves in goal, facing 11 total shots, which included a stop of a Robert Morris penalty kick.

In the 40th minute, Robert Morris' Jane Schleicher was knocked to the ground by Rossi going after the ball, and the referee called the foul in the box. Maleha Kureishy took the PK for the Colonials and fired it toward the right post, however, Rossi guessed correctly, and knocked the shot away.

Robert Morris held an 11-9 advantage on shots for the game. Both teams were credited with four shots on goal.

Head Coach Todd Clark's Postgame Comments
"Another satisfying win, even though we were up and down at times, but we were really resilient. We had a wonderful save from Alana on the penalty kick after the scrappy foul. She made an absolutely fantastic save to keep us in the game when it was 0-0."

"In the second half, we had a few more effort-type plays up front, which resulted in some corner kicks. We also had some kids come off the bench who were really beneficial. Overall, as a team, we were really composed and resilient."

Game Notes
• Friday's victory closes the gap in the all-time series, as Robert Morris now holds the 5-4 advantage.
• The Blue and Gold's 3-0 victory last year ended Robert Morris' five-game winning streak in the series, and now the Griffs have won two straight.
• Rossi's shutout is the eighth of her career, and Friday's win stands as her second shutout on the road.
• Wisbeck is the second freshman on the team to score a game-winning goal this season, joining with fellow newcomer Shauna Lee, who posted the game-winning marker in the team's OT win over Buffalo Aug. 29.
