Volleyball Hosts Siena and Marist in First MAAC Home Contests

OPENING SERVE
The Canisius volleyball program settles in for a four-match homestand, beginning this weekend, as the Golden Griffins welcome Siena and Marist to the Koessler Athletic Center on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Both matches are slated to begin at 1 p.m., and will both be broadcast online. Saturday's match will be shown on MAAC.TV, while Sunday's match will be aired on the ESPN3.

NOTING THE GRIFFS
• The Griffs come into the contest with a 3-9 record and split its opening MAAC weekend, falling to Rider 3-0 (25-11, 25-19, 25-22), but rebounded with a 3-0 win over Saint Peter's (25-10, 25-14, 25-23).
• Claire Leonard continues to lead the Griffs offense in her freshman season, pacing the team with a 3.02 kills per set mark. Next on the kills per set list are Leah Simmons and Sarah Wesley, as they sport 2.21 and 2.19 kills per set averages, respectively.
• Leonard is currently ranked third in the conference in kills per set, and is the highest ranked freshman in that stat group.
• Meanwhile Wesley is the second-most efficient player in the MAAC, boasting a hitting percentage of .286. Right behind her is freshman Andrea Diaz Lopez who is hitting .248.
• Cassidy Ceriani continues to quarterback the offense, posting an assists per average of 8.38, ranking fourth in the conference in that category.
• Junior transfer Sofia Lopez Acosta also ranks highly in the conference, ranking fifth in the league in digs per set with a mark of 4.07 per frame.

SERIES HISTORY AGAINST WEEKEND FOES
• The Griffs have struggled in the all-time history against the Saints, having gone 14-31 all-time against Siena.
• Recent history has not been kind either, holding a 1-9 deficit against Siena in the last 10 matches.
• The history against Marist is much shorter and more prosperous all-time, holding a 14-6 overall advantage against the Red Foxes.
• However Marist hold a definite edge in the last 10 matches having gone 8-2 against Canisius in that span.

UP NEXT
Canisius will continue its homestand following this weekend, welcoming Fairfield and Quinnipiac on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1. Both matches will once again be slated for 1 p.m. starts.
