Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Defeats Rutgers in Overtime, 2-1

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Sophomore Troy Brady scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season in the 97th minute to lift Canisius to a 2-1 overtime victory over host Rutgers in collegiate men's soccer action Tuesday at Yurcak Field.

Junior Hunter Walsh also found the back of the net for the Golden Griffins (6-1-0), who extended their winning streak to a program-record six games with the extra-session triumph. Erik Sa tallied lone goal for the Scarlet Knights (1-6-1).

Brady recorded his second overtime triumph of the season late in the first overtime period on a fine individual effort. After collecting the ball on the Canisius side of midfield, he raced past a Rutgers defender down the right side before placing a chip shot over keeper Rafael Pereira from the middle of the box to give the Griffs their first victory over a Big Ten opponent.

Earlier in the contest, Walsh put Canisius in front in the 33rd minute, using a pass from junior Melvin Blair to get behind the Rutgers defense before beating Pereira in a 1-on-1 situation with a shot into the lower right-hand corner of the net for his third goal of the season.

Sa brought Rutgers level at the 60:47 mark when he secored on a penalty kick that was awarded when Canisius was called for a handball inside the box.

Senior keeper Marco Trivellato made four saves in goal for Canisius while Pereira recorded six stops for Rutgers.

Head Coach Dermot McGrane Postgame Comments
"I'm so proud of our team's performance tonight. I thought we played very well in the first half and were feeling comfortable in the second half right up until the point where we got a red card and a penalty called against us.

"To play down a man for the last 30 minutes of the game and then win in overtime shows the kind of grit, determination, and will to win that we have on the team this year."
