Women’s Volleyball Travels to Duquesne for Non-Conference Tournament

Canisius volleyball continues its season this weekend as it takes part in the Duquesne Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The Blue and Gold is coming off its first non-conference tournament of the season, last weekend, competing at the Buffalo invitational and going 1-2 in the three-match slate.

This weekend Canisius takes on (0-3) Coppin State and (1-4) Robert Morris on Friday and (0-3) Duquesne and (0-1) Northern Kentucky on Saturday. Game times are set for 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Friday and 5 p.m. and 11 a.m. on Saturday.

After falling to Central Arkansas in straight sets, the Blue and Gold showed more fight in the final two matches of the tournament, falling to Buffalo in a thrilling 3-2 heartbreaker and besting Hampton, 3-0 on the final day.

Claire Leonard was honored by the coaches of the Buffalo Invitational, as the Griffs' lone member of the all-tournament team. Leonard posted a 2.45 kills per set average to go along with a .185 hitting percentage in her first collegiate contests.

Also having a strong weekend was that of Leah Simmons who made the best of her eight sets played last weekend and notched a 2.50 kills per set average.

Finally, Sam Zebuth had a career-match against the Pirates, tallying career-highs in kills with 10 and hitting percentage with a mark of.562.

Sofia Lopez Acosta had a strong introduction to her Canisius career, coming out of the weekend leading the team in digs per set with a 3.64 mark, while Cassidy Ceriani picked up where she left off last season, pacing the team in assists with assists per set and is second on the team in digs per set with a mark of 3.00.
