Men’s Soccer Rallies to Stun Colonials, 4-3

BUFFALO – Sophomore Troy Brady scored 28 seconds into overtime to lead Canisius to a dramatic 4-3 victory over Robert Morris in collegiate men's soccer action Thursday at the Demske Sports Complex.

Brady's overtime winner punctuated a rally that saw the Golden Griffins (1-1-0) score four unanswered goals to overcome a 3-0 deficit and stun the visiting Colonials (0-3-0).

Jake Cooper scored in the 13th minute to give RMU the early lead before Christain Coridon doubled the Colonials advantage to 2-0 at the 29:18 mark. Corey McCurdy staked RMU to a 3-0 advantage when he found the back of the net a little more than 10 minutes after McCurdy's tally.

Freshman Filippo Tamburini started the Canisius comeback just five seconds later, collecting a pass from senior Eric Strauchen and beating Colonials keeper Winter Fondi with a shot from top of the box for his first collegiate tally.

Senior Evan Walsh trimmed the Canisius deficit to 3-2 in the 70th minute, taking a feed from Brady on the right side and beating Fondi to make it a one-goal game.

The Griffs pushed for the equalizer in the final minutes and were rewarded with a little more than four minutes remaining in regulation. Junior Melvin Blair corralled a loose ball at the top of the box and placed a shot into the upper portion of the net to send the game to overtime.

Brady decided the contest just 28 seconds into overtime, taking a feed from Blair and firing a shot into the left side of the net to complete the comeback and give Canisius its first victory of the season.

Senior Bryce Tramuta made four saves in goal for the Golden Griffins. Fondi turned aside six shots between the posts for the Colonials.

Head Coach Dermot McGrane's Postgame Comments
"To be honest, at halftime it was not so much anything tactical that we talked about, it was more about character. When you have let another team score three goals on you in a half you can feel sorry for yourself and go out and just be beat, or you can roll up your sleeves, get to work, and claw your way back into the game.

"So, I challenged them about who I was going to see at the start of the second half. Fortunately, we had a bunch of boys who dug deep, worked hard, and got rewarded for their hard work."
