Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Stifled, Falls at Toledo 2-0

GAME RECAP
Toledo redshirt-junior Hannah Scafaria scored in the 25th minute and the host Rockets added another score in the game's second half as Toledo defeated Canisius 2-0 Sunday afternoon at Scott Park in Toledo, Ohio. The loss drops the Golden Griffins to 1-1-0 on the campaign.

The Rockets second goal would come in the 49th minute as Toledo senior Sophie Pohl would be credited with the goal after Rockets redshirt-junior Regan Price beat the Canisius defense to the end line just left of the cage. Price fired a shot to the front of the net and Pohl was able to chip the ball over the head of Canisius sophomore goalkeeper Alana Rossi and across the goal line. Rossi would go on to the stop four more shots before being replaced for the final 8:21 by freshman Bailey Fenwick-Miller, who saw her first collegiate action.

Toledo controlled the match from start to finish. The Rockets fired 12 total shots towards the frame with six going on goal. Canisius junior Melanie Linsmair registered the Griffs' lone shot in the game's 90 minutes.

The Rockets also recorded eight corner kicks to the Griffs' two corner chances.

Coach Clark's Post Game Comments

"We're disappointed at the effort. We feel that we had our spots, but we didn't play up to our full potential. Some played well, while others didn't. But, overall, we just didn't play well as an entire team… we're on the road and we needed to play hard. We had our opportunities… for a two nothing loss, I was actually pleased with the defensive effort, but it was still a sloppy game all around… we've won one game and lost one; one due to talent and one due to lack of effort… going forward, we need to find our motivation and translate that into effort for the rest of the season."

Game Notes
• This was the second all-time meeting between the two schools, with Canisius trailing in the series 0-2-0.
• The last time the Griffs were held to one or less total shots was last season at Quinnipiac in a 3-0 loss.
