David Hanes Finishes Third at MAAC Championship

Canisius freshman David Hanes shot an even-par 72 on Sunday to become the first Canisius freshman to finish in the top-five at the MAAC Golf Championship, which was held at Disney's Magnolia Course in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. The Elma, New York native posted a three-round score of 222, making him the first Golden Griffin to place in the top-five of the conference's championship event since 2013.

Hanes' third-place finish stands as the best for a Canisius golfer at the MAAC Championship since former Griff Drew Creighton finished second in 2009, and it marks the first top-five finish for a member of the Canisius program since Joe Vogl placed fifth in 2013. Hanes' score of 222 is the lowest for a Canisius golfer at the conference's title event since Creighton posted a 221 in 2008.

As a team, Canisius posted a three-round score of 936, which placed the team eighth overall. Sophomore John Dantonio matched a career-low round with his 72 on Sunday. He finished the tournament tied for 22nd. Junior Mark Lesinski shot a 74 in the third round. He ended up in a tie for 33rd place.

Dantonio, along with senior Cory Cullen, were also honored by the MAAC on Sunday, as both student-athletes were named to the MAAC All-Academic Team.
