Game Recap: Volleyball |

Siena Slips Past Volleyball, 3-1

Despite evening the score at 1-1 in the second set, the Canisius volleyball program fell in four sets to the Siena Saints, 3-1 (24-26, 25-13, 21-25, 18-25) in Loudonville, N.Y. With the loss Canisius dropped to 10-16 and 8-8 in MAAC action, while Siena improved to 6-20 overall and 6-9 in conference action.

Canisius bounced back after a heartbreaking first set loss (26-24) in the second frame, cruising to a 25-13 victory.

However out of the break Siena used an 9-3 run, down 18-16, to retake the one point advantage in the match, 2-1. In the fourtbh stanza Canisius knotted things up 13-13, however again the Saints went on a run, outscoring the Blue and Glold 12-5, to take the frame 25-18 and the match 3-1.

The Griffs had two players tally double-figure kills with Leah Simmons posting 14, with just three errors for a .379 attack percentage, and Sara Wesley following suit with 12 kills and six errors for a .273 mark.

Four Canisius players tallied double-figure digs with Sofia Lopez Acosta leading the pack with 18, while Simmons (13), Cassidy Ceriani (10) and Donnett Hickson (10), joining the junior-transfer.

Ceriani quarterbacked the Canisius offense, tallying 37 assists for the double-double, joining Simmons who also had a double-double as she notched 14 kills and 13 digs.

Siena's Dakota Jackson matched Simmons' kill total with 14 to pace the Siena attack.

Unforced errors proved to be the difference as the Blue and gold recorded 25 attack errors, six service errors and seven receiving errors, aiding the Siena effort.

THOUGHTS FROM COACH VAZQUEZ
"We're disappointed with today's effort," head coach Lenika Vazquez said. "The match came down to unforced errors. Bottom line is we didn't make the plays we needed to make to win the match."
