Volleyball Heads to Marist and Siena With MAAC Tournament Berth In Sight

While the home schedule for the Canisius volleyball program has come to a close, the Golden Griffins have four more matches to punch their ticket to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament, starting with a pair of contests against Marist and Siena on Nov. 4 and 5. Both matches are slated for 1 p.m. starts.

NOTING THE GRIFFS
• Canisius comes into the weekend with a chance to notch its first season with 10-or-more wins since 2012, as the squad comes in with a 8-6 record in MAAC play.
• The Griffs are riding a three-match regular season MAAC win streak for the first time since the 2013 season.
• In its final home weekend the Blue and Gold defeated Manhattan 3-0, and won a thrilling five-set marathon match against Iona, 3-2.
• Leonard posted a new season-best 22 kills in the win over the Gaels, and continues to rank in the top three in the conference in kills per set. She currently averages 3.33 kills per frame.
• Like Leonard Cassidy Ceriani posted season-best numbers, tallying 51 assists against the Gaels, and averaging over 10 assists per set over the three-match week.
•  Ceriani is currently ranked third in the MAAC in assists, averaging 9.14 per set.
• Both Leonard and Ceriani earned MAAC weekly award honors, as Ceriani was named player of the week and Leonard earned rookie of the week.
Sofia Lopez Acosta leads the team in digs per set and is currently ranked fourth in the league in the category with a 4.28 mark

SERIES HISTORY VS. OPPONENTS
• The Griffs have struggled in the all-time history against the Saints, having gone 15-31 all-time against Siena.
• Recent history has not been kind either, holding a 2-9 deficit against Siena in the last 11 matches.
• In the only meeting this year Canisius upended Siena at home 3-0.
• The history against Marist is much shorter and more prosperous all-time, holding a 14-7 overall advantage against the Red Foxes.
• However Marist holds a definite edge in the last 11 matches having gone 9-2 against Canisius in that span.
