Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Closes Regular Season with 1-1 Draw

The Canisius men's soccer team closed out the regular season with a 1-1 draw against Manahattan in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men's soccer action Wednesday at the Demske Sports Complex.

Freshman Filippo Tamburini recorded his team-leading 10th goal of the season for the Golden Griffins (11-3-4, 5-1-4 MAAC) while junior Lucas Da Silva tallied his team-best eighth goal of the campaign for the Jaspers (9-7-1, 6-3-1 MAAC).

Senior keeper Marco Trivellato recorded seven saves in goal for Canisius. Marcellin Gohier tallied seven stops between the posts for Manhattan.

Tamburini staked to a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute, knocking home a feed from senior Eric Strauchen from five yards out.

The score remained in favor of the Griffs until the 89th minute, when a loose ball fell to the feet of De Silva at the top of the box, where he fired a shot into the right side of the cage to bring the Jaspers level and send the game into overtime.

Canisius had the best chance of the two overtime sessions in the 102nd minute when a free kick from junior Bjarki Benediktsson was deflected by Gohier off the left post and back into play.

Head Coach Dermot McGrane's Postgame Comments
"It was a disappointing result considering we had the lead until the last minute, But, that's soccer and you have to deal with it.

"It's still a good achievement to finish in third place in the conference and get to host a playoff game."
