GAME RECAP
The Cansius volleyball program completed the weekend sweep, besting Manhattan 3-1 (25-21, 25-21, 31-33, 25-23) at Draddy Gymnasium, on Sunday afternoon.
Claire Leonard posted a season-high 21 kills in the victory, as the Golden Griffins improved to 6-12 and 4-4 in conference play, while the Jaspers drop to 0-19 overall and 0-7 in MAAC action.
Â
The Griffs stormed out of the gate, taking the first two sets by scores of 25-21 each, before Manhattan fought back out of the intermission.
Â
The Jaspers broke back with a win in a marathon third set 33-31, before Canisius fended off an energized Manhattan team, taking the fourth frame, 25-23.
Â
Leonard had a career-day, registering 21 kills and just eight errors on 43 attacks, to pace the team.

Â

THOUGHTS FROM COACH VAZQUEZ
"Today's win was a catch twenty-two," head coach
Lenika Vazquez said. "I am glad we finished the match off to get the win, but I am not happy that our defense shut down. Manhattan out-defended us in sets three and four. We were able to get the win by pulling together to get them out of system at the end of the match, however they did not want to lose and it showed in their play."
Â
"Claire did a good job for us," Vazquez said. "She stayed composed on offense, despite getting blocked a few times, she shifted gears and adjusted well."
