Genaway Paces Golf in Little Three Championship

Freshman Matt Genaway recorded his second top-five finish of the season to lead Canisius in the 64th edition of the Little Three Championship Thursday at the Niagara Falls Country Club.

Playing under challenging conditions on the par-70, 6,871-yard layout, Genaway posted an opening-round 77 and followed that effort with a five-over-par 75 in the final round to finish the 36-hole event with a 12-over-par total of 152. Genaway shared fourth place with St. Bonaventure's Jack Geise (78-74=152).

Junior John Dantonio posted his second top-10 finish of the season for the Golden Griffins, recording a 163 (81-82) to claim 10th. Senior Mark Lesinski placed 12th (81-84=165) while sophomore Jaret Chipman finished 14th (84-82=166).

St. Bonaventure captured the team title in the annual event for the second consecutive season with a combined score of 787 (397-390). Canisius placed second with a 36-hole total of 813 (407-406), while host Niagara took third (421-414=835).

The Bonnies' Patrick Sheerer claimed individual medalist honors, carding a seven-over-par 147 (72-75) to beat teammate Dylan Glatz (76-73=149) by two strokes and earn an automatic berth into the 2018 Porter Cup.

Thursday's competition marked the final event on the fall schedule for the Griffs.
