Women's Soccer Plays to a Scoreless Draw with Saint Peter's

Game Recap
Canisius sophomore goalkeeper Alana Rossi made five saves en route to her eighth shutout of the 2017 season, but the Golden Griffin offense was not able to find the back of the net either, as Canisius and Saint Peter's played to a scoreless draw in double-overtime Saturday afternoon at the Demske Sports Complex. The tie moves Canisius to 7-7-2 overall and 2-4-2 in the MAAC while the Peacocks are now 3-10-1 overall and 1-6-1 in league play.

After playing a scoreless 90 minutes, Saint Peter's had two chances in the game's 93rd minute to score the victory. After Canisius was whistled on an offside call, Saint Peter's countered with its own offensive attack, where the Peacocks were able to rip off two shots toward Rossi, who made a pair of diving stops to end Saint Peter's best offensive threat of the game.

In the second overtime session, Canisius had a corner kick in the game's 104th minute. On that play, senior Maddie Good redirected the corner kick volley into the box from junior Emily Czechowski toward the near-side goal post, but the Griffs were kept off the board as Saint Peter's goalkeeper Victoria Scarratt made a diving one-handed stop to thwart Canisius' best scoring chance in overtime.

Canisius had 21 shots for the game, with seven on goal, while Saint Peter's was credited with 17 shots. The Griffs ended the game with four corner kick chances against one for the Peacocks.

Head Coach Todd Clark's Postgame Recap
"We plenty of chances to put one in today, but it just didn't happen. The thing we want to focus on today is that we appreciate our seniors and the effort that they have given. It is going to be tough to see them go. A couple of them did not get to play today, and that is a shame."

Game Notes
• This stands as the first tie between Canisius and Saint Peter's in series history, which dates back to 1992.
• The Griffs lead the series 21-5-1.
• Canisius' 21 shots are the most for the team this season. Good led all players with seven shots, two of which were on goal.
• Rossi's eight shutouts this season are the most for a Canisius goalkeeper in one year.
• The Blue and Gold's six seniors, Katie Aldrich, Shawna Adams, Maddie Good, Taylor Kugler, Julia Mullican and Savannah Jonathan, were all honored pre-game.
