Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Falls to Quinnipiac 1-0 to Finish Regular Season

GAME RECAP
Redshirt-sophomore Kylie Lance headed home her first goal of the season to help lead the visiting Quinnipiac Bobcats to a 1-0 victory over Canisius Saturday afternoon at the Demske Sports Complex. The contest signals the end of the regular season for both squads as the Golden Griffins finish 7-8-2 overall and 2-6-2 in the MAAC. The Bobcats end at 8-6-3 on the season and 5-2-3 in conference play.

Lance tallied the game's only marker in the 66th minute after redshirt senior Laura Nicholas sent the ball on the corner kick to the near post, knocking off Lance's head, and past Canisius sophomore goalkeeper Alana Rossi. Rossi finished the afternoon with one save in the losing effort.

Rossi's counterpart, Bobcats sophomore goalkeeper Olivia Myszewski, recorded one save as well en route to the shutout victory.

Quinnipiac held the 9-7 shots advantage for the match, with the Bobcats firing two shots on frame to the Griffs one. Corner kicks were won by Quinnipiac who were awarded 10 to the Blue and Gold's six.

Head Coach Todd Clark's Postgame Recap
"Any game you play, you hope that the positives outweigh the negatives. We did a lot of things well that we were pleased with, however, there were a few little things that added up that we can't afford to have against a team like Quinnipiac."

Game Notes
• This was the eighth all-time meeting between the two programs, with Quinnipiac leading the all-time series, 5-2-1.

Up Next
Canisius will travel to Lake Buena Vista, Fla., for the MAAC Championships on Saturday, Oct. 28. The Golden Griffins are the No. 9 seed and they will face Battle of the Bridge rival, No. 8 seed Niagara in the first round. Kick-off is set for 2:00 p.m. Saturday and will be broadcast live on ESPN3.

Other Notes
The Canisius women's soccer team held a fundraiser to raise awareness about Alagille Syndrome on Saturday. Alagille Syndrome is a cholestatic liver disease that can lead to heart problems and other characteristic facial features. Assistant women's soccer coach Marquis Walker's four-year-old son, Gabe, is affected by Alagille Syndrome.

To help raise awareness, the team sold "Gabe Brigade" bracelets during the match against Quinnipiac. Donations can be made at any time by visiting the Gabe Brigade donation page.

Checks or money orders can made out to "The Gabe Brigade" and can be sent to:

Alagille Syndrome is predominately caused by changes in a gene called Jagged1 located on chromosome 20. In 3 to 5 percent of cases, the entire gene is deleted (missing) from one copy of chromosome 20. In the majority of cases of ALGS, there are changes or mutations in the DNA sequence that makes up the Jagged1 gene. In a very small number of cases, less than 1 percent, changes in another gene, Notch 2, result in ALGS. To learn more, visit the Allagille Syndrome Alliance website.
