Softball Gets Shutout at St. Bonaventure

After scoring 26 runs in two games on Sunday, the Canisius softball team's offense went cold, as the Golden Griffins fell to long-time rival St. Bonaventure 2-0 at Joyce Field in Olean, N.Y., Wednesday afternoon. The win moves the Bonnies to 11-25 on the year, while the Griffs slipped to 12-26 with the loss.

The Bonnies scored both of the game's runs in the first three innings, taking a 1-0 lead in the home-half of the first and then adding an insurance tally on the board in the third. St. Bonaventure's Emily McDonough went 3-for-4 with a run scored in the win, while teammate Kelli Rohan drove in both runs with a sac-fly and a fielder's choice.

Canisius had just three hits in the loss, with juniors Jessica Berzins and Samantha Sharkey and freshman Lauren Castro all registering base knocks in the loss.

Carly Bilchak earned the win in the circle for the Bonnies, her seventh of the season, after she went the distance and allowed those three hits to go with six strikeouts and no walks. Sophomore Madi Weathers took the loss for the Blue and Gold after she allowed two runs on seven hits while fanning five.

Canisius will return to action Saturday, April 23, when the team plays a pair of MAAC games at Saint Peter's. Game one of the league twinbill is set for noon.
