Pete Gratien, a third place finisher a year ago, won the 18th Annual Canisius College Shoes for the Shelter 5K, presented by Independent Health, today with a time of 16:05. Jennifer Boerner was a repeat winner of the women's event with a time of 18:01.
Canisius Athletics has collected over 32,000 pairs of shoes since the race commenced. A full count of shoes received for this year's race will be announced at a later date.
Other winners today included 18 year old Dale Nicosia, who won the Canisius student race in a time of 20:21, while Megan Lee was the top female student with a clocking of 21:07. Winning the faculty-staff event was Trey Gardner in a time of 20:11, while the top female Canisius administrator was Mary O'Sullivan in a time of 25:34.
The alumni race went to Michael Moore, who completed the course in 18:53, while Mary Lawrence posted the top women's alumni time in 20:27.
Independent Health winners were Michael Matecki on the men's side (24:53) and Michelle Carbery (24:17) in the female race.
