Athletic Training Announces the Addition of Gallo and Haboian to Staff

Canisius Director of Sports Medicine Kristen Saviola announced the hiring of assistant athletic trainers Domenic Gallo and Kara Haboian to her staff on Thursday.

Gallo will work with the Golden Griffins men's soccer, rowing and men's lacrosse programs. Haboian, meanwhile, will serve as the primary trainer for the volleyball, swimming and diving and acrobatics and tumbling programs.

"I am thrilled to welcome two outstanding new team members in Dominic and Kara," Saviola said. I am pleased with the talent, work ethic and energy they're bringing to our workplace and I'm excited to see their talents as athletic trainers in action and the positive impact they will have on our athletes and athletic department as a whole."

A native of Buffalo, Gallo returns to the Nickel City after serving as an athletic training intern at his alma mater, the University of Pittsburgh. With the Panthers, Gallo served as the main athletic trainer for the women's soccer program while assisting in the day-to-day operations of the athletic training department. He also provided host athletic training services for student-athletes at Atlantic Coast Conference championship and NCAA Tournament events in multiple sports.

Gallo also worked the University of Pittsburgh's Gatorade Camps along with stints at Fox Chapel Area High School and Robert Morris University. He also served as an athletic trainer at various AAU basketball tournaments within the greater Pittsburgh region.

A two-time graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, Gallo earned both his master's and bachelor's degrees in athletic training.

Haboian, a product of Rochester, N.Y., joins Canisius after serving as an athletic trainer at nearby D'Youville College for the past year. With the Saints, she provided emergency care, first aid and initial evaluations for all student-athletes while assisting in event coverage coordination.

Prior to her work at D'Youville, Haboian served as an athletic trainer at Buffalo State, where she implemented and adjusted courses of treatment for student-athletes to improve therapeutic results. She also served as a research study leader at the University of Buffalo, contributing towards the writing of published articles on research conducted in the labs.

A two-time graduate of University at Buffalo, Haboian received her bachelor's degree in exercise science before obtaining her master's degree in athletic training.
