Men's Lax Meets Vermont in First-Ever Canada Game

After opening the season on Saturday, the Canisius College men's lacrosse team is back in action with a contest against Vermont in Oshawa, Ontario. The schools are set to meet on Tuesday at 3 p.m., playing at the Oshawa Civic Centre.

MAKING HISTORY
• Canisius and Vermont are set to create history on Tuesday.
• The game in Oshawa is the first-ever meeting between two NCAA Division I men's lacrosse schools outside of the United States.

O CANADA
• A total of five Griffs are set to play in their home country for the first time as collegiate players in Tuesday's contest.
• Senior Mac Tomkinson and sophomores Cody Filson, Eric Gold, Connor Kearnan and Marcus Willock are all from Ontario.
• In addition, Canisius head coach Randy Mearns is from St. Catharines, Ontario and helped lead Team Canada to a gold medial at the 2014 FIL World Championship.
• Vermont has seven Canadians featured on its roster – tied for the second-most nationally, while Canisius is seventh with its five players from the north.

EARLY-SEASON STATS
• The Griffs were the last Division I school to play at game on Saturday, falling narrowly to nationally-ranked Boston University, 10-8.
• Sophomore Ryan McKee led the Canisius attack with four points in the opener, scoring two goals and two assists. His four points are half of his entire total from his 2015 rookie campaign.
• Junior Lewis Vaccaro also matched his career high with a team-best two goals in the contest.
Liam Ganzhorn made his first collegiate start in net for the Griffs, posting 13 stops for a .565 save percentage.
• In addition, the Griffs committed just nine turnovers against one of the best schools forcing miscues in the country. Canisius is first nationally with 9.00 turnovers per game – 5.4 turnovers per game fewer than last year.

CANISIUS – VERMONT SERIES HISTORY
• The Griffs and Catamounts have played on four previous occasions with Vermont emerging victorious each time.
• The schools last met in 2006 with Vermont claiming an 11-9 victory in a game played in Liverpool, N.Y.

ABOUT THE CATAMOUNTS
• Vermont is 2-3 on the season, coming off a loss at Michigan on Saturday, 15-13.
• Ian MacKay leads the Catamounts with 24 points through five games, netting 15 goals to go along with nine assists. James Barlow has also scored a team-best 15 goals, while Cam Milligan has a team-leading 11 assists.
• Jon Kaplan has played in 4-of-5 games in net for Vermont, posting a 9.52 goals against average and .558 save percentage.
