Women's Lacrosse Falls to No. 6 Louisville 15-7

Senior Taylor Giglio recorded three goals in 15-7 loss to No. 6 Louisville this afternoon from the Demske Sports Complex, moving the Blue and Gold's record to 2-3 on the season.

“It was a tale of two halves,” said head coach Scott Teeter. “We struggled early on in the game, but I thought we really battled and stayed competitive in the second half.”

The Cardinals started the game strong, scoring the games' first six goals, before senior Caroline Ogden scored her second goal of the season at 17:42 to make it 6-1. The Griffs closed the gap to four with ten minutes left to play in the first half, when sophomore Allie Stewart scored on a free position attempt. The Cardinals controlled the rest of the first half, going on a 6-1 run, for a halftime score of 12-3.

Giglio scored the teams other first half goal, while adding two more goals as the second half began, cutting the Louisville lead to 12-5. The teams battled back and forth throughout the second half, trading goals to a concluding score of 15-7.

In the second, freshman Jourdan Roemer scored her second goal in as many games, while fellow freshman Kayla O' Connell scored the first goal of her career. The Cardinals' Julia Wood also added a late goal with four seconds remaining for the Cardinals, giving her a team high of four on the game.

“As the game went on we showed we could stick with them, we just have to value the ball more as the year progresses,” Teeter said. “Louisville is a very good team and it was a good experience for our girls to play against that type of competition.”

The Griffs look ahead to Ohio State, who they face from Ohio Stadium in Columbus, OH. this Saturday, March 19 at 1:00 p.m.
