Canisius sophomore Moriah Harris has been named the MAAC Player of the Week after she hit .500 (6-for-12) with a double, a home run, three RBI and two runs scored in four games last week as the Golden Griffins opened the 2016 campaign at the Titan Classic in Fullerton, Calif. This is the first career weekly honor for the Clarence, N.Y., native.
In the season-opening loss to Weber State Feb. 12, Harris went 2-for-3 with a run scored, and she also collected hits against San Diego State and UTSA. In the loss to UTSA, Harris recorded her first double of the season, and she followed the effort by going 2-for-4 with a three-run homer and a run scored against Weber State Feb. 14. For the week, she posted an .833 slugging percentage and a .500 on-base percentage, and she was also credited with 13 putouts defensively. Harris extended her streak of reaching base safely in 12 of the team's last 13 games, dating back to last season.
The Griffs are 1-6 on the year after defeating UC Riverside 4-1 on Monday in a non-league doubleheader in Riverside, Calif. Canisius will return to action Feb. 26-28 when the team takes part in the Winthrop/Adidas Tournament in Rock Hill, S.C.
