The Canisius College volleyball team dropped its series finale against Niagara on Wednesday, falling to the Purple Eagles 3-0. With the loss the Blue and Gold drops to 6-17 overall and 4-10 in MAAC play, while Niagara improves to 10-16 overall and 8-6 in conference.

Canisius staked claim to early leads in the first and second sets but Niagara erased the deficits quickly, on its way to a straight-set victory (25-17, 25-23, 25-21).

The Blue and Gold were led by its senior leadership, as Katlyn Tyler paced the squad with 11 kills, and Jacklyn Malusa was close behind with 10. Cassidy Ceriani recorded her 12th double-double of the season as she notched 29 assists and 15 digs in the effort.

For Niagara Nicole Matheis led the way with a team-high 15 kills and a .282 hitting percentage. Alex Stone also hit double-figures with 12 kills and a .435 hitting percentage. Alexis Gray had 35 assists and 12 digs to pace the team in both categories.

GAME NOTES:
• Canisius is now 32-35 against Niagara in the all-time history between the two squads.
• The Griffs have struggled recently against the Purple Eagles, going 2-10 in the last 12 matchups, while Niagara has now won four-straight against the Griffs.
• Ceriani recorded her 12th double-double of the season, with 29 assists and 15 kills.
• With the loss today, Niagara takes the second point available in the vollyeball portion of the Battle of the Bridge. Canisius still leads the overall competition 6-2. 

UP NEXT:
Canisius will gear up to play its final two home matches of the year on Saturday and Sunday, as the squad welcomes Fairfield and Quinnipiac. The Griffs will take on the Stags on Nov. 5 and the Bobcats on Nov. 6. Both matches are set for 1 p.m., with Sunday's match serving as the team's senior day. The Griffs will celebreate the careers of its three senior players, Jacklyn Malusa, Katlyn Tyler and Gabrielle Vetere
