The Rider volleyball team hit .244 as a unit and recorded seven total blocks as the host Broncs defeated Canisius 3-1 (25-18, 20-25, 25-19, 25-21) in MAAC action Saturday evening in Lawrenceville, N.J. Rider, which swept Canisius during the regular season with the win on Saturday, moved to 12-11 overall and 6-5 in MAAC play with the win, while the Golden Griffins slipped to 5-14 overall and 3-7 in league play.
Senior Katyln Tyler had a match-high 16 kills to go with 11 digs in the loss and freshman Leah Simmons was credited with a career-high 13 kills to go with a service ace. Fellow freshman Carly Shifflet posted a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs for the Blue and Gold, while fellow freshman Cassidy Ceriani ended the contest with 38 assists, 12 digs and four kills.
Rider started the match with a win in the first set, taking advantage of five Canisius service errors. Canisius evened the match at 1-1 after taking the second set by a score of 25-20. In that set, Tyler was good for four kills, while Simmons and Shifflet added three kills each. After the intermission, Rider took advantage of four service aces to take a 2-1 lead in the match before closing out the contest in the fourth set thanks to four kills by Hailey Riede. Riede ended the match with a team-high 12 kills for Rider.

“This was a well-played match. We showed discipline and executed well throughout the match. I thought we matched Rider defensively, but they dominated in blocks and that put them ahead.”
Game Notes
• This was the 35th all-time meeting between the two teams. Canisius leads the series 27-8, but Rider has won three of the last four meetings.
• Tyler's 16 kills on Saturday gives her 1,057 for her career, which puts her in ninth-place all-time on the school's career kills chart.
• Simmons' 13 kills gives her double-digit kills in three different matches this year.
• Ceriani is the first Canisius freshman setter to record more than 500 assists in her rookie campaign since former Griff Janelle Davis in 2008.
