The Canisius College women's soccer team was defeated 4-0 by Manhattan this afternoon in Riverdale, N.Y. to open conference play.Â
The Golden Griffins are now 2-6-2 on the season after suffering their fourth consecutive loss.
Erica Modena began the scoring for the Jaspers on a deflection in the 21st minute of play and would later score again in the 49th minute to give her a team leading seven goals on the season.
Manhattan would add two more goals in the second half of action to put the game out of reach.
Although the Griffs have struggled of late, head coach Todd Clark still believes in his team and what they can accomplish the rest of the season.
"As a coach I am still convinced we have enough talent available to be successful," said Clark. "I am equally convinced that commitment, concentration and effort must meet or exceed our talent if our goals are to be met."
The Griffs are now 13-9-2 all time against the Jaspers in regular season play.
Canisius will play their second conference game of the season next Saturday, Sept. 26 against Monmouth at 1 p.m.
Game Notes: The Griffs were outshot 23-3 by Manhattan and also lost the battle in corner kicks 4-0. Freshman Emma Westwater led the team with the two shots.  Canisius now moves to 1-5-1 on the road this season.
