The Golden Griffins women's soccer team was defeated by Robert Morris Sunday afternoon 4-1, giving Canisius a 2-5-2 record on the season.
The Griffs fell behind early, giving up three goals within the first 12 minutes of action and were unable to recover.
“We started off very slow and due to not enough work from our starting front runners, we allowed too much pressure from a known long ball team,” said head coach Todd Clark.
Freshman Emma Westwater played well for Canisius, scoring the lone goal for the team, the first of her career.
The goal was scored in the 43rd minute when Westwater was able to find space inside the near right post with a tough angle shot that made it 3-1 at halftime.
The Colonials would score later in the second half to put the game out of reach.
The Griffs outshot Robert Morris 15-9, but it was not enough to make a comeback from the early deficit.
“All in all we continue to make the same decisions on the field,” said Clark. “We react with the same excuses and suffer the same consequence. Until we approach things differently individually, we will not experience the quality of success as a team."
The Golden Griffins will take on Manhattan next Saturday Sept. 19 at 12 p.m. in Riverdale, N.Y.
Game Notes:
The Griffs won the shot battle and also had the advantage in corner kicks 7-3.
