Cleveland State Beats Women's Soccer, 2-0

The Canisius women's soccer team suffered a 2-0 loss to Cleveland State Friday evening, moving their overall season record to 2-4-2.

The Griffs and Cleveland State battled during the first half of action and were tied heading into the break. A goal in the 54th minute by Vikings senior forward, Vicki Havas gave Cleveland State a 1-0 lead.

Weather played a factor in the game as the goal scored by Havas came off a rebound in what was described as "whizzing" rain.

The Golden Griffins kept the game close throughout however and head coach Todd Clark was pleased with the way the team stuck to its game plan.

The game plan called for a formation change late in the second half, where a defensive lapse allowed Cleveland State to take a 2-0 lead.

Although the team suffered the tough defeat, Clark noted he was happy to get junior defender Callie Good back into the lineup to solidify the team defense. As well as sophomore forward Taylor Kugler, who missed the Griffs past game.

Kailee DeFranks allowed both goals and made six saves, giving her a 1.45 goals against average and a .789 save percentage for the year.

The Golden Griffins next game will be held in Moon Township, Pa. Sunday afternoon, when they take on Robert Morris at 1 p.m.

Game Notes: Canisius was outshot in the game 14-5, recording two shots on net to Cleveland State's eight... The Griffs also lost the corner kick battle with by a 7-1 margin.
