The Canisius College women's soccer team opened its season in historic fashion, topping Hampton University 16-1 Friday night.
The Griffs started off the Todd Clark era with a bang, breaking previous school records for goals in a game, 12 (against Daemen College in 1986), and total goal margin, previously held at 11.
Clark's first win is due in large part to Taylor Kugler, Brittany Krause, Sam Gagliano and Savannah Jonathan, who each scored three times in the contest.
The Golden Griffins struck early and often, netting nine goals through the first half of action.
Emily Cuta, Ronja Gustafsson, Mattia Cornell and Brittany Bowen also added to the impressive total with a goal apiece.
Cornell, Kugler, Cuta and Gustafsson scored their first career goals during the contest.
Game Notes: Canisius began the winning effort with a goal from Kugler and then rolled to the 16-1 victory. Canisus outshot Hampton 52-1 in the lopsided contest, registering 11 corner kicks, while Hampton recorded zero.
The Griffs will look to continue their hot play when they take on Old Dominion, this Sunday, Aug. 23, at 1:00 p.m. in Norfolk, Va.
