The Golden Griffins women's lacrosse team will look to secure it's first victory of the season on Tuesday, as the team travels to Olean, N.Y., to take on the St. Bonaventure Bonnies at 4:00 p.m.
The Griffs last played on March 1 when the team traveled to New Haven, Conn., to take on Ivy League opponent Yale. Despite a strong effort by the Blue and Gold, the team fell to the Bulldogs 12-8.
This season Canisius has been led by senior attacker Tori Quinn, sophomore attacker Taylor Giglio and freshman attacker Lauren Smolensky. Quinn has a total of 15 points this season on nine goals and six assists, while Giglio has seven goals of her own, including five against Yale, and Smolensky has netted four in her first year as a Griff.
In goal the Golden Griffins have had a competition between freshman Rebecca VanLaeken and senior Kayla Scully. VanLaeken has made 28 saves this season and has appeared in all four of the Griffs games so far, while Scully has 11 saves and has made three starts for Canisius.
The Bonnies enter the contest with an 0-3 record, with the teams most recent loss coming against a MAAC opponent in Iona on March 8. Offensively St. Bonaventure is led by Mikayla Price who has nine points with four goals and five assists and Gabreille Bradley who has eight points with six goals and two assists.
After the mid-week contest, the Griffs will play their first game at the Demske Sports Complex this season when the team hosts nationally ranked Ohio State on Saturday, Mar. 14 at 1:00 p.m.
