Coming off of their first victory of the season, the Golden Griffins women's lacrosse team will host their first home-game this weekend when the Blue and Gold welcome No. 14 Ohio State to the Demske Sports Complex. The game will take place on Saturday, March 14 at 1:00 p.m.
The Griffs, who defeated in-state rival St. Bonaventure 14-8 on Tuesday, will look to continue their winning-ways against the Buckeyes who come in with a 6-1 overall record. The Buckeyes one loss came against Stanford on Feb. 28.
Canisius enters the conference ranked sixth in the nation with 20.8 ground-balls per game and the team also ranks in the top-30 in caused turnovers with 9.0 per game. The Buckeyes will come to Buffalo having one of the premier scoring offenses in the Country, ranking fifth overall in points with 160 and also tied for fourth in the Country with 16.14 goals per game.
Individually the Griffs are led by senior captain Tori Quinn who is having a strong start to her final year in the Blue and Gold uniform. Quinn ranks 16th in the nation with 2.0 caused turnovers per game, 50th in the Country with 3.8 points per game and 42nd with 1.40 assists per game.
Quinn isn't the only Griff who has been having a strong season, Ashley Bull ranks 38th in the Country with 3.80 draw controls per game and freshman Erica Evans is 79th with 1.40 caused turnovers. The freshman also is third on the team with seven points, after notching three goals and an assist against St. Bonnies on Tuesday.
Freshman Rebecca VanLaeken recorded her first career victory as a Griff on Tuesday when she held Bonas to only two goals in the first half. VanLaeken ranks 47th in the Country with a .452 save percentage and is fourth in the MAAC with 33 saves.
After Saturday's match-up with the Buckeyes the Griffs will play their second home game just four days later when the Blue and Gold host Duquesne on March 18.
