The Canisius women's soccer team was defeated 2-0 by the Siena Saints this afternoon at Siena Field, moving their overall record to 3-9-2 on the year.
The contest was a defensive battle throughout, with the first goal coming in the 68th minute of action when the ball was played short off of a free kick and put home by Siena junior defender Tara Sobierajski. Â
The second goal for the Saints came off of a blocked shot that was rebounded and scored by sophomore Madison Vasquez.
The Griffs team defense held there own for the majority of the match, but were unable to hold off a solid Siena front.
"Several backs played exceptionally well and defensively we are making strides," said head coach Todd Clark. "The goals still elude us and it makes it easy for teams to continue to press. Staying the course is our only option."
The Griffs were outshot 18 to 5 with 2 shots on goal compared to Siena's 10.
The team is now 1-4-0 in conference play with five games left to play in the MAAC season.
Canisius will travel to New Rochelle, N.Y. on Saturday, when they take on Iona at 1 p.m.
