The Canisius women's soccer team lost to Fairfield University 4-1 this evening at the Demske Sports Complex, giving the team a 3-8-2 record on the year.
The Griffs fell behind early in the contest giving up a goal in the 24th minute. The goal was put home by freshman Jenny Jacob off of a crossing pass from freshman Holly Habyan.
The Stags would pad their lead several minutes later scoring in the 29th minute on a shot by Brenna Brown that came off of a perfect lead pass by Elena Santos.
The Golden Griffins looked to close the gap coming out of the half, but those hopes were quickly dashed as Fairfield took a 3-0 lead only a minute into the second half. Â
The Griffs lone bright spot in the game came on a header goal by freshman Melanie Linsmair off of a corner kick by sophomore Taylor Kugler. The goal was the first for Linsmair in her young career.
The inconsistent play of the team has frustrated head coach Todd Clark, but he refuses to give up on his team as the season moves forward.
"They're going to have to be resilient at this stage of the season, individual players are either going to soften up or they're going to dig in and make significant changes," said Clark. "It doesn't matter if it's the best player on the planet or someone lower down the ladder, if you're a good coach you'll continue to encourage them to do the best they can possibly do and accept nothing less than that."
The Griffs women's team will show how resilient they can be when they take on two conference rivals Siena and Iona this coming week on the road.
