The Canadian Lacrosse Association and head coach Scott Teeter have announced Canada's 2015 Federation of International Lacrosse Under-19 World Championship roster.
Making the final 18-player roster was Canisius women's lacrosse freshman Erica Evans, of Peterborough, Ontario. Evans, was named to the team as a midfielder, the position she will also play for the Golden Griffins.
“I'm really excited and honored to play for Team Canada, it's a dream I've always had to represent my country and it has finally come true,” said Evans. “To have the opportunity to wear the red and white with Canada written across my chest is an honor and it's something that is very hard to accomplish.”
The final 18-player roster will represent Canada as the FIL Women's Lacrosse World Cup heads to Scotland for the first time. Canada is currently ranked third in the world in the under-19 women's field and will look to climb to the top of the podium in Scotland.
“The opportunity to play with and against the best player in the world is amazing. I know it will be very fast paced and aggressive, just like at the college level with Canisius. I really think that being able to play at the world level will help me take my game to the next level over my collegiate career with the Griffs,” said the freshman.
The U19 World Championships will take place in Edinburgh, Scotland this summer from July 23 to August 1.
The Golden Griffins open their 2015 season next weekend, as the team travels to Syracuse, N.Y., to take on Syracuse University on Feb. 7.
