Despite a strong second half push by the Canisius women's soccer team, the Griffs fell to Sacramento State on Sunday by a final score of 2-0.
Canisius had three shots on goal to the Hornets two, but were unable to get anything into the back of the net. The Blue and Gold are now 1-5-0 on the season. With the win Sacramento State moves to 3-3-0.
Head coach Jim Wendling had this to say about his team's performance, "First off, this weekend we played two really good teams, which is going to prepare us for the upcoming schedule, but in regards to today's game, we started off pretty slowly, but in the second half we played really solid. We had a solid effort from the team, but we just need to be able to put the ball in the back of the net, that's our biggest problem and we will look to fix that heading into this weekend's games."
Junior Kailee De Franks, who got her first start of the season, received the loss for the Griffs, making her 0-2-0 this season. Junior Tara McPherson and senior Mallory Illsley led the way for the team offensively, recording two shots a piece.
The Golden Griffins will be back in action this Friday as the team takes on Cleveland State on Sep. 12 at the Demske Sports Complex.
