Canisius women's soccer lost to visiting Cleveland State 4-0 on Friday night at the Demske Sports Complex. The Golden Griffins are now 1-6-0 on the season, while the Vikings moved to 4-4-0 with the victory.
Junior Kailee DeFranks got the start in goal for the Blue and Gold, and despite her seven saves, the keeper took her third loss of the 2014 season.
The Griffs recorded six shots on goal against the Vikings, with senior forward Mallory Illsley leading the way with two.
Cleveland State scored first in the game's 17th minute and held a 1-0 lead at the intermission. The Vikings tacked on three more goals in the game's final 45 minutes, with the final two markers coming 1:17 apart.
Canisius will return to action Sunday, Sept. 14, when the team plays host to Binghamton. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
Game Notes: This was the eighth all-time meeting between Canisius and Cleveland State, and the series is tied at 4-4-0… With her two shots on goal on Friday, Illsley now has a total of 24 on the season… The seven saves made by DeFranks in the losing effort is a new career high.
