The Canisius women's soccer team hosted Robert Morris University at the Demske Sports Complex on Saturday afternoon and despite some strong overall play, the Griffs fell by a final score of 1-0.
The Colonials (2-6-1) scored the goal early into the game as Greer Monahan capitalized on a misplayed goal kick in the eighth minute, giving the visiting team the 1-0 lead.
Despite out shooting the Colonials 15-10 in the contest, the Griffs couldn't capitalize on some key opportunities by Brittany Krause and Mallory Illsley. Krause led the team with three shots and Illsley had two in the game. Canisius also had nine corners to Robert Morris' one, including five in the second half.
Sophomore Allison Maynard made her first start in goal for the Griffs and made four saves in the contest. Maynard would receive the loss for the Blue and Gold giving her a 0-1-0 record this season.
With the loss the Golden Griffins are now 1-9-0 this season, including 0-1-0 in MAAC play. Next up for Canisius will be conference rival Monmouth, as Canisius hosts the Hawks at the Demske Sports Complex on Saturday, Sep. 27 at 11:00 a.m.
Game Notes: Sophomore Katie Felegy received a yellow-card in the 86th minute of the contest, the first for the Griffs this season… With her start in goal, Allison Maynard played in her first collegiate game, playing 90 minutes and recording four saves… The loss against Robert Morris brings the Griffs all-time record against the Colonials to 2-4-0….
