"We played in front of a great environment at Fairfield with a lot of energy and crowd noise," Canisius coach Cathy Hummel said. "I'm proud of the way we overcame that and competed against a good Fairfield team. We also got to continue to work on another lineup so we are prepared for a lot of situations in Disney."
After Fairfield (17-11, 13-5 MAAC) pulled away to win the first set, the Griffs played strong down the stretch in the second set to even the match at one set apiece. Canisius trailed 22-20 and then used a kill from Bendy and service ace from junior Rachel Kline to even the score. After trading four side-outs, a kill from Siebert and solo block from junior Grace Streicher knotted the match at one set apiece.
