Women's Soccer Falls to Rider

The Canisius women's soccer team traveled to Lawrenceville, N.J. to take on the Rider University Broncs in a mid-week MAAC match-up on Wednesday, and lost by a final of 5-0.

With the loss, the Golden Griffins fall to 3-11-0 on the season and have a 2-3-0 record in MAAC play. Rider improves to 7-3-1 after the victory and now sits at 2-1-1 in conference play.

The Broncs scored two goals in the first 11 minutes of play with the first goal by Tara Ballay coming on a long run that got past the Griffs defense and the second goal by Carissa Sanchez coming off a cross. The home team scored three more goals, including two more by Ballay to put the team up 5-0 at the half.

The Griffs were led offensively by Katie Felegy and Kathleen Lawver as both players recorded two shots in the game. Two goaltenders made appearances in net for the Blue and Gold as Brigid St. Leger received the start for Canisius making two saves. Kailee De Franks came in for relief for the senior finishing out the game and making four saves.

Canisius will play next on Saturday, Oct. 11, when the Blue and Gold host MAAC opponent Iona at the Demske Sports Complex at 1:00 p.m.

Game Notes: There were only three Griffs who played all 90 minutes in the game, as junior Tara McPherson made her 14th consecutive start and the two defenders, Callie Good and Alexis Kroese each played the entire game…. With the loss against Rider the Griffs are now 10-9-1 against the Broncs….
