The Canisius College softball team ranked 25th in the nation last season by team grade point average, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced recently. The Golden Griffins posted a 3.393 team GPA last season and ended the year as one of two MAAC schools to finish with a top-25 team grade point average among all Division I schools in the country.
The NFCA Academic Awards program honors both collegiate and high school teams for their submitted GPAs for the 2012-13 academic year. As a second component of the program, all submitted student-athletes who achieved a 3.50 GPA during last academic year are named as a NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete. Canisius has eight student-athletes receive that recognition, which was announced last week.
The Griffs will continue their fall schedule this weekend with games Sept. 28-29. On Sept. 28, the Blue and Gold will play Monroe Community College at Niagara University, with game time set for 12 p.m. On Sunday, Sept. 29, Canisius will play a doubleheader at Buffalo. Game time at UB's Nan Harvey Field is set for 1 p.m.
